Write a 400 word essay on the theme of Remembrance in Canada and have an opportunity to participate in 200 Veterans with 200 Students. Remembrance Day Contest
The Royal Canadian Legion is sponsoring a contest on remembrance with a Canadian theme. There is a poster contest - both colour and black & white. There is literary contest as well. You may write an essay or poem in either English or French. You can find complete information at the Legion website. Socrates on Trial
Recently, Socrates was a defendant in the gr. 11 history court. Charged with trying to corrupt the youth of Athens, the learned philosopher and teacher was found to be innocent of the charges laid against him by Judge Baggio and the jury. Congratulations to all who participated in the trials this semester.

Alexander the Great Trial
This morning, Alexander the Great was put on trial. He was charged with cultural genocide. The crown maintained that as he expanded his empire into Asia he was systematically attempting to destroy the culture of those territories he conquered. Fortunately for Alexander, his defense team was able to convince the judge and jury of his innocence. Tomorrow we learn Socrates' fate.

Speakers' Speech Writing Contest
The Speakers of the Senate and House of Commons have launched a speech writing competition for Canadians aged 12 to 17. The contest asks, "What does Parliament mean to you? Participate by submitting a written speech through the contest webpage (the links are below). Six finalists will win an all-expenses paid trip to Ottawa in June 2017 where they will have an opportunity to meet the Speakers. The contest closes April 21, 2017.

Royal Canadian Legion Public Speaking Contest
If you have a passion for public speaking consider competing in the Royal Canadian Legion's annual public speaking contest. Entry forms can be obtained in rm 107. Names have to be submitted by Wednesday, Feb. 22 so come by rm 107 as soon as possible.
